what we believe

Montgomery Church of Christ is on a journey with God.  By God's grace, we seek to be a caring family where lives are being transformed to glorify God, imitate Christ, and make Christ known.

We believe there is one true God who demonstrated His love for humanity by sending His Son, Jesus the Christ, to die on the cross for our sins.  Jesus suffered the penalty that our sins should have brought to us.  He paid our debt to sin at the cross, was raised in glorious triumph, and sits at the right hand of God.  We believe He will come again to claim His followers.

We believe salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.  We cannot earn or deserve what God has done for us through Jesus Christ.  Forgiveness of sins and reconciliation to God is His loving gift to us through the life and selfless sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  God guarantees our salvation by giving us the indwelling and abiding presence of His Holy Spirit.

We believe faith expresses itself in turning away from sin, baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of sins, and the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit, and then living a life that embodies God's love and life in every way.  Repentance is our decision to return to a life that imitates God in every way and immersion in water manifests our willingness to die, be buried, and be raised in His likeness.

We believe that all Christians are called to adopt a life of discipleship that imitates Christ's own.  In following Jesus Christ, we are guided by God's Word preserved for us in the Bible and empowered by the Holy Spirit of God's love.  Our weekly participation in the Lord's Supper serves to remind us of God's saving work in Jesus Christ and the covenant life that all people can enjoy and experience with Him.

We believe the purpose of the church is to honor God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit by living lives that reflect and demonstrate the care of God for the world.  By God's grace, we endeavor to share Jesus through our words and actions, to encourage others to mature as followers of Christ, and to love God first as well as love all others as God has loved us.
